Digital camera photography is a complicated and intricate world all of its own. There are entire books dedicated to the subject of digital photography and choosing the perfect digital camera. No one article can give you all the information you may need to know. However, this article is designed for those people who are looking to purchase their first digital camera or for those who have previously owned one and want a camera of a higher quality and want to know what to look for in order to make the right choice. The More Pixels The Better A digital camera takes an image and converts that image to dots called pixels. The more pixels per inch you have the sharper the image will be. If you want to have your pictures come out clear, choosing a camera with the highest number of pixels you can afford is important. You are going to want a camera that has at least a 2 or 3 megapixel. Which means there will be 2 or 3 million pixels per inch. If your budget allows you to purchase a camera with more megapixels then do so as it will result in better pictures. More RAM? In digital cameras, RAM refers to the amount of pictures your camera is capable of storing. The more RAM you have the more pictures you can store on your camera. Some cameras have little RAM memory but come with memory cards, which are used for additional picture storage. The amount of RAM you are going to want will depend on what you want your camera for. If you like taking pictures while on vacation or at special events and will not have somewhere to readily download your pictures then have as much RAM as possible or a memory card which will prevent you from missing that once in a lifetime picture. Shutter Release Time The shutter release time simply means the speed at which the camera allows you to snap pictures. Most inexpensive cameras have a slow shutter release time meaning that there are several seconds pause between the snapping of pictures. The faster the shutter release time, the more pictures you can take in a minute. Having a fast shutter release time is more important to those wishing to take action pictures. Zoom The zoom on your camera will be one of your most used features. The zoom lens will allow you to take pictures from a distance and have them turn out clear. This is especially great for those who want to take pictures of wildlife. Choosing a Digital Camera The best way to choose a digital camera that will meet your needs and that you will be happy with is by starting with a list of those features that you feel will be most useful. Include in your list the price range you can afford to spend for a camera. After you have your list and know how many megapixels, how much RAM etc. you would like, and then you can begin searching for cameras in your price range. Take the time to read the reviews for different cameras as that will help you discover things that the companies simply will not tell you such as ease of use, durability and other important factors. |
